Recently, I plugged in a China-made 4-port USB hub to the office PC. To my dismay, it refused to be recognized as a normal Generic USB Hub. When this is plugged into other PCs, it will be automatically recognized and detected as Generic USB Hub.
After Googling for USB fix, I came upon the MSDN article stating the USBHUB.SYS is part of the USB.INF. Upon checking the drive content for USBHUB.SYS, I found that the file is inside C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32.
Knowing that USB installation requires an INF file, I search for USB.INF inside the computer. And you know what! It wasn't there!
So, I copied the USB.INF from the other PC and put that into C:\WINDOWS\INF. And, next thing you know, the Generic Hub is working, at last!
For your info, the stubborn PC is running Windows XP Home SP2.
Cheers!
