Unable to set "Show Hidden Files and Folders"

Iif you have the problem to view all hidden files/folders, you would normally open up the Tools > Folder Options > View tab. Then you'd set Show hidden files and folders under the Hidden Files and Folders category. However, some malware/virus will modify the registry to defeat this settings. Your set option will revert to Do not show hidden files and folders after you close the dialog box.

To fix this, do the following steps in Registry Editor:

  1. Go to HKLM > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Explorer > Advanced > Folder > Hidden > SHOWALL
  2. Change the REG_DWORD value CheckedValue to 1
  3. Go to HKCU > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Explorer > Advanced
  4. Change the REG_DWORD value Hidden to 1

Exit Registry Editor. The changes are immediately reflected.

Cheers!
